Topic: mic stand adapter & the Shure vert bar

I use the mic stand adapter below with the Shure vert bar.  The 5/8 adapter keeps getting stuck in the vert bar when I detach the vert bar from the adapter.  Should I use JB Weld or some epoxy on the 3/8 > 5/8  connection to prevent this?  I hate breaking out a pair of plyers everytime it happens.  I plan on using either the Shure vert bar or AKG KM235 for stereo bars.  Thanks.

Why are you detaching the shure vert bar from the quick adapter?

I think you could get away with a small dap of jbweld to hold it tight.  This could also be detached w/ a little force via two paris of pliers.  I would just sacrafice the entire stud/adapter and use a good bit of jb weld. 

my adapter/stud stays on my vert bar and i have another stud incase i need use a different bar.  i do have to remove the stud from the vert bar if i want to clamp but i guess that is why i carry pliers.

go to an auto parts store and ask them for some thread lock.

Mine was doing the same thing at first. I think I realized I was tightening the vert bar on too much. Now, all I have to do is pinch the adaptor with two fingers while I unscrew the vet bar and it stays on.

Cool.  Pep Boys carries JB Weld and other epoxies.  I am going to epoxy the 3/8 > 5/8 connection, since I use 5/8 stereo bars.  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything stupid.  Thanks for your help.

thread lock is good for situations where there is vibrations and movement that would cause a connection to become loose over time.  some of the better thread lock has some adhesive properties to it but don't think it would last long for this situation of unscrewing and re-attaching a vert bar.

I just don't know my own strength...breaking shock mounts, too tight on the vert bar, yadda yadda yadda....The JB Weld or thread lock is a good idea though. I just don't want to commit to something like that

Nah, thread lock will hold that sucker on there like a muh-fugger. If you get the blue thread lock the adapter will stay on pretty much permanently. You would have to heat the adapter w/ a torch to break it free...

The thread lock I've used is "loctite"

edit: BTW, I've used the red stuff.  I think that is supposed to be the strongest stuff from loctite.  May be different with other manufactures

you should be able to find it at any auto parts store.  It's fairly common.  Comes in a small tube and you don't need very much to do the job.

I have a tube at home I'd have to look, but I think it is loctite like MGB mentioned.

Just go to an auto parts store and ask where they keep the loctite/threadlock. There's a couple differnt types, and each will have a description as to their 'holding properties' for lack of a better term.

I bought the highest strength (red), 3000 psi, for about $6.00 a tube.  Worked like a charm.  Thanks guys.

For me, this will be my permanent 5/8 stand adapter.  I will always use the A27M or KM235 bars.  If I need an accessory, like an umbrella, I can always go the super clamp route.  I doubt I'll need anything else.

not always an option here. i work on very complex forklifts that often have very sensitive electronics everywhere. 9 times outta 10 the torch isnt a viable optin
