go to an auto parts store and ask them for some thread lock.
Mine was doing the same thing at first. I think I realized I was tightening the vert bar on too much. Now, all I have to do is pinch the adaptor with two fingers while I unscrew the vet bar and it stays on.
thread lock is good for situations where there is vibrations and movement that would cause a connection to become loose over time. some of the better thread lock has some adhesive properties to it but don't think it would last long for this situation of unscrewing and re-attaching a vert bar.
Tim, do you know a brand name on the 'blue' thread lock? Or is that a JB Weld model?
Can I find "loctite" at a Autozone, Napa, or Pepboys?
