There is a standard which almost all manufacturers use for these connectors, (+) on the inside of the tip.  Edirol is the exception to this rule for some reason so they have the (-) on the inside of the tip, and the (+) on the outside.

go to radio shack... they have "adapt-a-plug" sets.  You need a cable, a "B" tip, and an "M" tip.  Plug them together with on side TIP(+), and the other side saying TIP(-).  It's about $20 but you are done in a minute.

Or take the cable that probably came with your battery, and find an "M" tip for the R44, and wire it backwards so the (+) is on the outside and the (-) is on the outside.

Or go to Kind Kables and get a nice one.  Same price as the ratshack stuff but it looks a hell of a lot better.  Don't understand why folks buy the ratshack stuff when a custom cable w/ tekflex is available for the same $$  ???  :shrugs:

My Ratshack adapta-plug make-your-own cost something like 6.99 + 6.99 + 14.99 and one of the connections is loose.  A couple of times I've moved the battery and the power went off, fortunately not during actual recording.   The 3 pieces that make up the plug are frankly cheaply made pieces of crap.

I am now too looking for an actual plug, and will email Kind ASAP.

Personally I like the flexibility of the rat shack cable.  I find tekflex to be to ridgid to snake around my bag depending on what gear I am using that night/day.  Why do you need tekflex on a cable that is protected inside you bag?  Plus I bulit my own Hot Swap-able dual battery cable for those long festival recordings.

If the connections are solid and you use some heat shrink tubing you shouldn't have a problem.

The only reason I mention radshack is because most people want something for tonight, and they didn't think ahead enough to order one from Ed.

Myself... I found a cable with B on the end... and another cable with M on the end, and soldered them together... not exactly rocket science.

Agreed.  Don't get me wrong, I am sure Ed does fine work, but this solution hasn't let me down, yet...
