Title: Transferring video from Hard disc camcorder to CPU - best method?
Post by: 6079 on November 01, 2007, 01:00:27 AM
I'm almost certain the answer, but the footage is pretty important, so I want to make sure.
I have a Sony DCR SR 42 with a hard drive.  If I simply access the drive via USB, click and drag the videos to my PC, isn't that the exact same video as what I recorded?
Is there a better method for capturing the video; i.e. firewire, etc. in terms of quality of footage?

Thanks for answering my stupid question.

You're just transferring a file from one storage device to another.  And much like when you transfer a jpeg image from the SD card in your photo camera to your harddrive - it's just a straight copy - nothing happens to the file itself.

You only need to use firewire if you're transferring a MiniDV recording.  The HD on the camera is a storage device, just like the drive on your PC.  Copy and paste and you're good to go.
