I've used the H2n w/ great success, in recording at clubs & larger venues.
My trick, is to just set the record level @ "0" (off), & bring up the volume in DAW. Whenever I've tried to run the levels I've always got distortion as well, &/or just an unpleasant tonal quality.
I'm not sure how the H2 compares w/ the H2n, in this respect, but, you may try that.
The newer "F" series field recorders w/ 32 bit are pretty outstanding, but, then you have to also have mic's & cables.
