Topic: Anyone see the Samson / Zoom H2 at NAMM?

A buddy of mine turned me on to this.  Anyone have some more info? The only thing I've been able to find on the net so far is a short movie and a blurb about it with conflicting release dates (March or May, which is it?)

According to the research above done by the Zoom fans, it looks like this thing will compete head-on with the Edirol R09.  24/96, 1/8 input, NO digi-in.  Price is set at $199.00, about half of the R09's opening price.

I owned a Zoom H4 for a while in the fall.  Well built machine.  I wasn't totally in love with the onboard Pre, but it had no major defects and recorded with no flaws.

If the H2 can handle SDHC Class 2 (8GB) cards, it will definitely slice into the R09's market.

Reading these sources, I'd summarize as follows:
-- great deal for the money
-- internal mics sound surprisingly good
-- external line input sounds good, too
-- external mics attached via the 1/8" TRS jack don't sound as good as the internal mics do
-- headphone amp is noisy, so recordings are better than they sound via the headphones
-- record volume setting over 100 adds noise, probably uses digital gain after preamp
-- decent mics, good battery life, compact size, fast startup make the H2 great for spontaneous recording

YEAH! awright! thanks for the tip! I will have to read up on that! I was bummed out that the H2 brickwalled badly when i tried the line inputs off my Neumann KM140> Beyer MV100 setup at a normal volume rock show (Meat Puppets - Nov 9, 2007 @ High Noon Saloon in Madison) I think the line in is WAY too sensitive, luckily my mics have pads. If I'm gonna keep the H2, I may have to mod the Beyer to get lower gain, since its lowest setting is +20dB. At least LeeGeddy figured out how to do that, so I can get the scoop from him!
