16GB SDHC $52 after MIR
« on: June 17, 2008, 02:39:53 PM »
Prices for 16GB SDHC flash memory cards has declined recently.  Class 6 16GB SDHC cards made by second-tier manufacturers like Transcend, A-Data, Patriot and PQI now routinely cost less than $70.

Here's a good deal available through 6/30: Zipzoomfly is selling the Patriot 16GB SDHC for $55.  Shipping is $7, so a total of $62. After a $10 mail in rebate, your cost is $52.    (I remember when a 1GB card cost more than $100!)

One caveat:  This Patriot card has a five year warranty, instead of the lifetime warranty offered on other products.  If you want a lifetime warranty, Zipzoomfly and Newegg offer alternatives for about $65 delivered.

And so the Compactflash users won't feel left out: 16GB A-Data, $59 delivered.

This card is slower than the SDHC cards mentioned above, so you'd have to test it before using it to record 24/96 or 24/192.

I've used the PQI 16gb SDHC in the Tascam DR-1 with great results. No hiccups what so ever. Its been 3 years since I used a JB3.  Its great to be back recording a string of shows and not have to swap out cards or transfer music to reuse one.

Not sure what recorder that you said you got (R-09?) but there are a lot of reports that these do not play nice in the Edirol R-44.  There is a 16Gb Kingston on sale for approximately the same amount.  I use the 16GB PNY class 4 oni the R-44 with no problems.
