Title: Marantz PMD660 file recovery
Post by: vox humana on February 28, 2007, 06:20:09 PM
I was recording a concert on AC with no battery in the recorder. The recorder was accidentally unplugged while still recording. The final track is showing up as a 0 Kb file. I suspect there is information on the CF card, but how does one go about recovering it?

Thanks for any hints.

You can probably try to recover the files with any good computer file recovery program.  I know of a few programs that do this, but they are quite expensive.  Do a google search and see what you can come up with.

You could give something like this a shot, it's Freeware and if nothing else you might be able to see if there's any data on your card: http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/filerecovery.html

Good luck.

Recovering data from a flash card is a problem that happens often enough that the manufacturers of the flash cards give away software to address the issue.  Use Google to search for "xxx data recovery" where "xxx" is the name of the flash card manufacturer (Lexar, Sandisk, Kingston, etc.) .

If the manufacturer's free software doesn't do the trick, you might try other free software, such as
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/digital-image-recovery.htm
http://www.aumha.org/a/recover.php
http://www.pcinspector.de/smart_media_recovery/uk/welcome.htm

If these programs don't work, you might purchase a data recovery program like Photo Rescue, $29.

Another inexpensive program is Recover Lost Data from Stompsoft, $39
http://www.stompsoft.com/recoverlostdata.html

All these programs are for the PC.  I'm sure a Mac user can contribute links to similar programs for the Mac.

And if you still can't recover the files, then consider employing the services of a data recovery company.  They have proprietary tools that can access the card independent of the operating system, and usually recover data that can't be reached by other means.  These services don't come cheap, but compared to losing the original recording, they can be a bargain.  I paid a company to recover 750 MB of recordings made in Venezuela, for example.  The cost of the company's services were a lot cheaper than flying back to South America to re-create the original recordings.

Many thanks for the suggestions. I've now tried PC Inspector. It restored the beginnings of files, then left silence.

On to something else. I'll report if I have success.

Hi Vox,

Hope you have resolved your issue.

If not, then I advise you to go for a Stellar Phoenix Windows – Professional data recovery software or you can try TestDisk tool which can help you in recovering your data.

I hope that you’ll surely get success with any of the above-mentioned software.

Good Luck!
