Rat Shack 9.6V recharging?
« on: April 28, 2004, 10:07:44 PM »
I have a RatChack 9.6V charger for my 1000 mAh NiCD and 1600 mAh NiMH batts. How do I know when the batts are finished charging? The batteries get hot after a while. Any hints? Yeah, I know... I need to upgrade.  ;)

Any lights?  If not  find out the chargers output, it should be on the back somewhere and break out the calculator.  Should be like maH x Hrs bat has been charging(or something like that)   If the batteries get warm that is a fairly reliable sign they have filled up.  be careful to monitor them if they heat up quickly & check to see if your charger has a trickle feature.

hmmmm... I must have the cheap version. Cat # 23-342. It is switchable between NiCd (red LED) and NMH (green light). But, those lights stay on when it is plugged into the wall. I let it charge for 8 hours once waiting for the light to go out. Oh well, I want to invest in the good set of batteries soon anyway. Thanks for the input. +T all around.

I don't remember how long it takes (do you Bean?) but have you tried over night to see if it does charge?  since you're thinking about a new batt anyway you ahve nothing to lose....how old is the batt?  maybe it's bad....any paper work on the charging time for the batt?  you can figure it out if you have the numbers.

gfl ;)

d00d, its not a nice trickle or anything, just leaver it in till the light goes out, it gets hot, tahts normal, leave it in, and check in about 8-12 hrs, the light SHOULD be off and yer ready to go

jah-i dont remember exactly, i believe it varies in time, but ive also cycled my batt too, have you done that bro???

cycle your batt(let it totally drain, then charge FULLY, till the light goes out)
