Title: Gefell setup and advice
Post by: DaryanLenz on March 03, 2003, 08:16:55 PM
Well, my pair of gefell m200 cards is on their way, and I haven't a clue as to how to use them, having never played with them in the field before!  I guess I would just like some general reccomendations such as what stereo setup to use up close, farther back etc.  Any general stuff I need to know.

Thanks guys

Daryan

I am a member of team gefell, who woulda thunk it ;D

Hello Daryan I also have gefells and I have schoeps.
I like to run the gefells XY and I never run the schoeps that way. You will find many gefell owners run xy.
I am aware they are one of Mr Oade favorite mic for rock music. This is one of his posts regarding gefell configuration.

Hello !
Yes, they have an amazing amount of depth and spatial detail, the
best of any solid state mic I have heard. Cards will always record
more of the room and have a "softer" sound than hypers ( your
friends "louder"), which have a more forward or aggressive sound (
true of most all brands). I run the hypers in most indoor venues due
to poor acoustics, but will use cards or omnis outdoors. I feel the
MG mics sound best run X-Y, I have tried most configurations with
them and come back to X-Y for all of their directional mics. They
also have a very present sound, noticeably lacking any film, again,
tube like in this regard, I love em !
peace..>Doug

I am not saying this is the only way to go but I am aware he has much experience with these mics.

Peace out,
Wiggler

I ran them DIN at Hampton. Sounds very nice. I was probably a bit far back to really get the best sound. But still sound nice. I did run them X,Y the first night, and they do sound nice as well, but the others have more feel to them in my opinion.
