Recorded some stuff to a 4GB Sandisk microSD and was going to upload it from the PCM-M10 as usual.
Not so fast. Although Win7 saw the card and the Private folder and the System Volume information, clicking into Private triggered:
"You need to format the disk in Drive I: before you can use it." Oh, really?
Tried a different cord to the PCM-M10 to see if that was the problem--same result.
The files play back in the PCM-M10 and, sigh of relief, are just fine for upload from the card slot on the Win7 computer. Meanwhile, a 32GB Sandisk Ultra is still read just fine from the PCM-M10.
There's very little wear on the card slot--I usually upload from the 32GB card in the PCM-M10, and only exchanged the 32GB to the 4GB for something I was keeping separate.
I guess I should chalk it up to the 4GB card getting ready to go kerflooey. But has anyone else had this situation?

No similar experience to report, just marking the thread for my own purposes.
FWIW I've always considered that card slot to be one of the M10's less well-designed features.

Never had an issue with the M10, but micro sd cards can be tricky sometimes. I had a 64GB Sandisk go belly up where it would read but no longer write even with protection off.
If they're not unmounted properly when removed these cards can develop corruption of the file system that's difficult to fix. If you don't have a backup up that 4GB card, try it in a USB card reader. If you don't care about it, try formatting it in the M10.

Every now and then I'll experience what op describes with a variety of devices. I have found that just turning the device off, waiting a few seconds for the windows message to auto-clear, and turning it back on solves the problem. Sometimes it takes a few tries but has always worked. I've thought that windows tries to read the device before it is ready and therefore doesn't see the data. Warming the device up via repeated turn on might let the device boot up faster and windows can then read the card.
Or it might be something completely different >:D

Agree with candor. This happens to me almost every time I plug in a USB storage device using Windows 7. I ignore it and click no. It may be coincidence, but I associate this with upgrading to a Solid State Drive. I've got used to the various little problems, which may be down to latency. For example, if I try to delete something very often I need to use a programme called "Unlocker" as I get a message saying the folder is in use, even when it isn't (or at least, not obviously so). But in general terms, Microsoft do not support USB very well. It is a long running conflict - they simply say it is up to the motherboard manufacturer.

Never had a problem here, but I strictly run Sandisk and A-Data micro SD cards, and I always format the microsdhc card before every show

^ When I ran my M10 I also always formatted the micro SD card befroe every show. Never had any problem.

Post-Show routine:
Remove SDHC #1 from M-10>external card reader>PC+External storage x2>open all 3 in editor and confirm they all load/play properly
Pre-show routine:
Plug in SDHC #2 from M-10>external card reader>confirm transfer>PC HDD+External storage X2>open all 3 in editor and confirm they all load/play properly
Step 3: lather, rinse, repeat.
