Title: Nak 300 mics

Does anyone modify nak 300 mics to phantom? Upgrades? Thanks everyone have an old set I would like to use again. JP

Check the Team Nak thread under Team Boards. To give a quick answer to your question, yes they can be modified, but to my knowledge the number of people offering that service is fairly low. You can still find batteries, but you might have to get creative. I use two small 6V batteries taped together. Anything in that voltage range that is the same size as a AA will work.

The thing is - with this mic - even if modded so it "runs on phantom" - all of those solutions ultimately power the capsule with 9V - that conversion always seems like kind of waste - especially with battery powered recorders.

I always saw the advantage of the mods was separating the signal and power (so the signal isn't going through the battery.) - not sure this had much effect on the final sound though.

Others put the premium on the reduced size of the overall setup...handy for low-profile tapers.
