Title: Creative Extigy
Post by: super-phat-al on July 23, 2003, 01:19:15 AM
Anyone have any experience on this card.  Looks sweet!!!!  I spent $72 on this 7pin>optical cable to do transfer and my current sound card doesn't work.  The spdif section doesn't work.  Apparently everyone has the same problem, but no one knows how to fix it.  But this looks like a card that will be $115 well spent.  Any insights on the card?

creative (or at least soundblaster) products have had a bad rep for performing unnecessary resampling during transfers.  i don't know if this is the case on the extigy however.  another fine solution would be (if they still have them) the $99 echo mia card from guitar center or musiciansfriend.com...that special was a while ago though.

What OS are your running?  I have an m-audio DiO 2448(no resampling) that I am trying to sell.  $50.

Like it's been said, the card does unnessecary resmpales during the transfer which you don't want happening.

You get an Audiophile for cheaper than that if you look around or you could pick up Kevin's Dio.

this is true with the extigy but not so with the audigy.
I have the audigy and it is pretty damn good.

Audigy resamples as well, so it is true for any Creative soundcard product.  If you want something of a similar style, check out the Hercules Game Theater XP--which has been shown not to resample (and is cheaper I believe).

Straight from Creative's mouth on the Extigy:

Info on the Audigy and it's lack of bit for bit perfect transfers:

I think the bigger problem with all SB cards is that they're not guarenteed to be bit for bit accurate.

Info on the difference between the two Midman Soundcards (Dio and Audiophile).

I'd personally pick up Kevin's Dio for the 50 bucks he's asking for, it's a great deal for the card and it'll do what you need it to do.  If my money wasn't so tight I'd probably take it off his hands to hook another one of my 'puters up to the stereo.

Because I couldn't get it to work in XP.  Upgraded and bought a 2496 which works like a charm.  Not sure if it was soemthing  was doing wrong or whether the card just doesn't like XP.
