Title: FA-66 and MicroTrack..a happy couple?
Post by: Ace of Dubs on November 10, 2005, 03:15:09 PM
Has anyone successfully used this combination?

I searched for reviews on FA66 here but it seems no one has tested them yet.

As much as I think MicroTrack blows, it just may be the best solution for me to dump files from the FA66.

Another question I have is, does anyone here do custom mods? I know Oade has his hands full and only works on the devices he sells. But I am hoping someone here knows someone who could mod an FA66 with some kickas converters...now that would be sick!

The UA-5 was not marketed as a standalone preamp either, yet many people here use them as such.
The FA-66 has digital outs, which makes me believe it just might work with an MT.

the people who are using the UA-5 as a standalone unit had to mod it to allow it to work.  a stock UA-5 will not work as a standalone., just fyi...

As Jason States the UA5 requires modding,

All of thier new unit lack the number of controls actually on the unit and are controlled via software so even if you were able to rig it up to function standalone you wound lack many of the essential control knobs

Aww Shucks! I was hoping this would be a viable option. Oh well..

At least I found a new UA5 for cheap!

I remember reading a thread about a poster here who still does UA-5 mods.

Been searching for the last half hour and I cant find that thread...

Thanks for that one Fozzy

+T!

In the meantime I have found some viable alternatives (at least I think they are)...

Presonus FireBox
MetricHalo MIO

I could be wrong since I am fairly new to all this, but woudl the above items also need to be modded for use with an MT?
