cheap or free editing software
« on: March 12, 2010, 07:45:10 PM »
I use to have both sound forge and cool edit pro since I cannot find either of these on my hard drive I am assuming it was lost in the last crash a few years ago. Anyone have any answers?
Thanx in advance

Audacity.

Seconded.

+ CD wave

technically CD Wave isn't free

but it's cheap which is the other criteria.

and I'll add a vote for audacity as well, I even use it for tracking.  :P

Doesn't free 15 day trial == cheap?  j/k

audacity

Audacity is the way to go.  The price is right and it is a very good editor.

Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

I happen to like Goldwave.  Its $30 for lifetime download.  Simpler than Audacity, and has some great batch commands.  So if you routinely do 60Htz highpass, double volume and compression, you can set that up to run all three at once, while you have a beer or take a nap.  Easy cue points and splitting.

The SE version of Samplitude is about $70 (IF I recall correctly, it's priced at 50 euros).  It's a very powerful software program, and is a huge value at $70.

for resampling only, I really like voxengo r8brain.  It's a free program (although there is also a Pro version that costs $150)
