Topic: Your favorite mic and why? Rephrased

I'm in a part of Calif where renting film and audio equip would take nearly a full day at the least, so I buy.  I'm coming from a producer/director pov.  BUT I KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF SOUND IN A FILM!  Most of my equip has been Senn until I discovered Schoeps.  In reading TTF, I discovered many of you like Gefell, a mic I've never hear of.  So to focus this discusion, I would like to know your favorite mic for a) interior dialog, b) exterior dialog and c) lav mics and why.  (Feel free to add shotgun, card, hypocard, etc if that is a limitation in your consideration.  And if the preamp or other accessories matter in your assessment, let me know that as well.)   Thanking you all in advance--I'm all ears.
