Keeping cable together
« on: February 18, 2004, 05:04:11 PM »
I want to try and 'attach' my 2 XLR cables together to make setup/teardown a little quicker.  Curious how people do this: cable ties/electrical tape?  Cables ties seems a little more sturdy but I'm afraid of the plastic digging into the cables.

zip ties will work fine...
I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

depends what kind of sheathing you have- i dont like tape- it leaves goo on your cables.  zip ties are great- just dont pull them down too hard and clip the ends.

I used those nylons ties on one set of cables, but keep my actual mic cables individual.

Yeah, the goo was one problem I saw with using electrical tape.

I use electrical tape...I don't give a shit about the goo...they're cables.  They end up on the nasty floor at venues...goo from electrical tape doesn't really bother me.  I've tried zip ties, but even when clipped, they're sharp and you end up scratching yourself rolling them up.   Those cable clips from that website look like they wouldn't be roll-up friendly either.

moke sounds like a former scout, or someone who knows his knots.
Governor Jim McGreevey was equally disturbed about the upcoming population increase. "New Jersey cannot support all of these wookies," he said. "For starters, we don't have nearly enough kindbud. At best, we can muster up a Q.P. of some beasties, but we've not a dime-bag more."

I have had really good results with 1/8" bunjee cord / shock cord material.

Any recommendations on where to get this stuff, Moke?

Actually a hardware store / Home Depot might have it (1/8" shock / bunjee cord), as I've seen that they do have bulk material for making custom size bunjee cords

i made these not too long ago.  i used the 1/2" sheath.

Marc,

Where do you get that material?

i got them at Pacific Radio Electronics in Burbank, CA.  i -think- they were quite cheap and had many sizes.  the 1/2" fitted the 2 StarQuad cables nicely and gave them all the flexibility they needed.

anyone want any?

i use zip ties on my AM's, but forthe star quads imgonna make, i think i'll use marc ideas, cause the am's are a bit too stiff todo that w/, but the star quads would be perfect 8)
