M+S software plugin
« on: December 07, 2011, 05:49:18 PM »
I have a problem, I can't be the first to have. When I come home with 2000 files, trying to sort out the junk - is there a plugin for the audio playback software like COG, or whatever on Apple?
So I can quickly can listen through all my files, decoded.

Thanks

Borrowing a DR 100 Tascam at the moment.
But soon - hopefully a SD 7xx or Marantz 611 (looking for those two, if anyone wants to sell!)

None of my business, but I'm just curious why/how you have 5k audio files at the end of the night? Or are you talking about photography ???

I'll give it a shot -- as far as I know, m/s decoding is best accomplished using an audio editing program, such as audacity soundforge, etc.  The drawback to these programs is that you need to load the entire wav before you can edit it, and this is time consuming. My first question is what are you seeking to accomplish when sorting out the "junk?" -- could this be accomplished by limiting your reveiw to the raw mid? (the card pointed directly at the sound source), or are you looking for something more?

Personally, I'm unaware of any mac-specific program that would allow you to decode mid/side on the fly without first loading the entire program.  However, there does appear to be a plugin for the windows program foobar2000 that can do this -- see http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=88358

I've successfully installed foobar2000 on my macbook using wine, so this could be a viable option if you're up for getting it configured.

You hit it spot on! Time consuming! And I need to listen to the spaciness or lack hereof, for my use. So thanks - but still, I'm on a mac... Hmmm... does voxengo work somehow??

The best way to deal with M+S if you don't have a hardware box for that is probably through plugins.

Audio File Engineering's Wave Editor supports VST and AU plugins and is relatively cheap but a very full-featured product.
