Can anyone with experience weigh in on whether or not there are any differences between the Church Audio pre-amp systems?

I currently have a 9000 - any worth in going up to the 9100 or 9200?

If you record quiter stuff/shows the CA 9200 will improve your recordings for sure...  Going to a decent loud rock show the CA 9100 is the way to go for me...An semi or unamplified show I use the CA 9200.

I have to say the +20db of the 9100 works in conjunction with the CA 14(C) most of the times for me...and I can use the best gain of the M10 which is about 4.5 and fine tune the rest on the CA 9100.

With the 9200 I have to make a decision before the show if I use +15 or +30db...I brickwalled a recording lately using the +30 gain ...I know it was my own fault but I am still sorry for not being able to hear a few songs again...

I would not go from a 9000 to a 9100 there is not much of an advantage. the difference is in function and circuit design. the 9000 only gives you three gain settings 0 db or unity +10 and +30 db this preamp is really designed for Visio camera recorders where you might need gain on a mic but reduction on the output of the preamp so as not to overload the input of the camera or cause the AGC to freak out. the 9100 has 20 db of gain that goes from 00 to + 20 db making it flexible in that gain range it's good for tapers that mostly tape loud shows. the 9200 has 6 gain ranges 0,10,15,25,30,40 db respectively. This preamp allows for everything from quiet shows to very loud shows and the possibility of overall output reduction.

thanks for help....I had been running CA-11s (cards) with the 9000, just recently grabbed a pair of CA-14s (cards) and have run those 3 times now. You guys definitely seem to know the ins and outs on this stuff, so just curious - what is the "best" way to run my preamp with those mics?

I have typically been running the follwings:

9000 preamp at +30 db -> Edirol r-09hr mic gain at LOW, input setting at 50 (of 100) .... I then adjust the preamp knob to give a healthy signal.

I have often wondered if I would gain anything quality-wise if I
(1) stay at +30, max out the pre-amp knob and dial down the Edirol settings
OR
(2) go to higher Edirol settings and drop the preamp down to +10 db
any opinons?


btw, i have had my 11s for about 4 years now and I have been very satisfied with all of the equipment - really sounds great

FWIW- that's not unity, it's the lowest usable input gain setting.  It really has nothing to do with unity gain, a concept not applicable to these recorders.

Run your preamp higher than gain on a handheld. But I don't have an editor recorder. I usually run my 9100 at around 2-3pm on the dial. But if I had to choose preamp gain or recorder gain, you just have to find a happy medium
