need some suggestions ...
« on: September 16, 2004, 04:59:03 PM »

I'm sending my Nak CM-300's off to Marc for his "Franken-Nak" mod this week.. So looking into different mounting options now.
For now I'm considering the DPA ORTF mount and maybe the Oktava clips on an AKG bar.. have these pics of some CM-700's mounted this way with mini DPA shocks..

Looking for more mic clip or shockmount ideas... "outside the box" ideas would be MUCH appreciated   ;)

Thanks!

mike,
ive been looking at this mod as well for my cm-300's.  once modded, will they no longer fit into standard shock mounts?

also, if running the cp4's, wouldnt a heavier duty shockmount be necessary?

and for the modded ones, i was thinking about a hat mount of some sort, would that work? or are the bodies to large?

Luke,

They will fit it just won't be very low pro.
not too long ago I saw a shockmount here someone made out of large washers, spacers, and elastic HAIR-TIES.
I'd do a search for it, it's a great DIY option for mini shocks

My latest epiphany is to make a "kwon" style mount, connecting two clip style mounts end to end and
clamping that inside an AT shock. groovy no?

here's the 411 on the mod...
Marc doesn't touch the bodies at all, so you can still run CP-4's with those. I've had plenty luck running CP-4's using
the AT shocks (8410 or 8415, the bigger one, i can't remember which model#)

Hat mounts would be fine no doubt. Search around within the site I've seen some good ideas.

You know that the 700 cap sections are pretty thin.  I don't know if those DPA mounts will accomodate a 300 body.  How was Matt H getting those 700 caps to fit those mounts anyway (those are his mod700s)?

I know that those Shure donut shock mounts A53M fit the 300 bodies tightly (need some gentle twisting a prodding to get them in).  LeftoverSammy is selling a pair in fact (as he sold his CM-300s).  They would be a great low-profile solution to the franken-nak mods.

Andy,

Those are Matt H's 700's  ;)  Got a bunch of pics from Joe T when he sold me those 701 caps.

But those DPA shocks have different sized centers available for different mics
with the catalog here in fronta me..
the shock #CSM4000 combined with rubber mount #DDS0019 (19mm or .75') should be a nice fit.
they also have a 11-13mm rubba(DDS0012) and a 16mm rubba(DDS0016)
I suspect he is using one of those two for his 700's..

lastly, I asked Sammy for some pics of the 300 caps in those shocks before i make a decision..
So far I'm really liking the Kwonbar idea.

Matt is using the DPA's to mount his mod 700's.....however if they do come in different sizes as you have said just be prepared to shell out some serious cash. At the time I was setting up my 700's I found out the DPA mounts were $120 per mount!! OWCH!!

I ended up going with the Sabrasom mounts instead since they are much more affordable (although not nearly as durable). For times when I am feeling lazy and don't wish to fuck with the SSM-1's I use the standard "clamp style" mounts. I mounted some foam tape to each end to prevent scratching of the mics and provide some (key word "some") dampening.

FYI - You will be able to mount only the caps into the A53M's for your mod 300's, but the shock mount alone will cover up most of the FET with just the capsule protruding. I'll give it a try tonight with just the FET/caps in the A53M's and see how they look. Pix on the way.....

Thanks for the pics Sammy!
could i get one special request? I'm all into my kwon idea.. would it be possible to connect those two mini mic clips you mentioned (for your cm-700's) inside the shure mount? Looks like it may be a TIGHT fit. please lmk if it's possible...

Right now i'm using a shock (see pic below) with original Nak clips..
friggin "perfect". with the caps one way it's ORTF exactly, reversed it's DIN, right on the money!
should have some pics of that after this weekend..
Only thing, I don't really like the grip those clips have with just the caps in them.
