Troubleshooting help w/ a P1
« on: March 03, 2005, 05:07:16 AM »
Ran into a problem with recording done with my DA-P1 tonight. I was running ADK TL's>MiniMe>DA-P1 (S/PDIF in). I ran the setup through the soundcheck, swapped to a new tape for the show and ran the deck for the show. All seemed well: got levels, was able to monitor through the phones using either MME or DA-P1 headphone jacks...even supplied patches to two patchers (one digital, one analog) who recorded just fine.

First sign of trouble was at the end of the night when I tried to rewind the tape. It would stop halfway and go no further. A friend was able to rewind the tape in his R500; and we even were able to play it back in the R500 (though we didn't listen, the levels bounced as if there were a recording there). I got back to the hotel and pulled everything out to check the tape. No playback. Tape is showing that time code was put down; but no signal.

Thinking the P1 might be the culprit, I tested the deck by first running the mics directly in to the P1; and was able to record & playback. Next, ran mic>MME>P1; and again I was able to record & playback. I then put in the soundcheck tape and it played back just fine.

So, I'm thinking (or rather, hoping) that it's just a bad tape issue; but I figured I'd ask if anyone (or everyone) has come across this problem. Most of the time I record straight to laptop; but I will be needing the capacity to have a second recording device for a couple of shows very soon. If the P1 is the culprit, I'll have to do some quick footwork to get a deck or lappy or something.
