What's a bm2p+ UA5 worth?
« on: December 07, 2005, 01:29:02 PM »
Just wondering.  I like it and all, but it doesn't really fit my needs very well.  Have it, plus a brand new never used 9V battery and the adaptaplug cable.  Wall wart, and original box.  Used once in the field (last weekend) with perfectly good results.

Anyone help me out with what it might go for?  I searched and didn't find any, and I don't think I can compare it to the Oade mod prices.

Private PM is fine; no need to clutter this forum.  Didn't think it belonged in the YS forum so I posted here.  Hope that's OK.

Thanks,
Dirk

*NOTE:  Not looking to sell at this time, just curious what the price range would be for it in case I do decide to unload it.*

I'd say $300 is fair.

I would say if it's in the same condition as when you bought it, and it's seen little use, it's worth 90-100% of what you paid for it.

damn, i would think its worth more than that - i was gonna say more like 400, depending on the condition of the ua-5.

I asked because I really don't know the answer, but I'm positive $300 is too low.

thanks to all,
Dirk

I also feel that around $400.00 is about right. I bought my UA-5 used off ebay for $170.00, and it came with the original reciept for over $300.00.  Busman2 did my p+mod for $160.00 shipped. So, my unit new upgraded with the BM2p+ would have been over $560.00, and used I was able to do it for $330.00, which I felt was a steal.

Peace,
Dave

Sorry, I didn't see that it was a presence mod.

Back in the day, when Chris started doing these, he offered his original modded ua5 to somebody for $300, so that's what I was basing the price on.

duh.. shouldn't wake and bake.... my math is off here....over $460.00 for my unit new with the upgrade, and still $330.00 with a low used price I was able to get and with Chris's upgrde.

Peace,
Dave

I believe it means the phantom power was modded as well as the analog inputs, still the same bm2 transparent sound though.  Someone chime in if need be...

Bullshit.

What if I paid $20 for it originally?

Or similarly, what if grandpa dies and leaves you his prized pair of Elams?  You gonna give those away when the time comes?  NOT.  You're gonna sell them for $13K apiece, because that's their worth.

My original question was looking for a rough estimate on a dollar figure, should I decide to sell.  Doesn't matter at all what I paid for it (I did NOT pay $20 unfortunately!), it's a question of what it's actual worth is.

All irrelevant now since I've sold it, but the apparent range is anywhere from $400 - $450.

Yeah but there is a market for ua-5's, modded or unmodded.  Bottom fell out of the dat market.

edit to add:
What I mean is, doesn't matter what the d7 is worth, you will never get it because there is no demand.  Hence, you must sell below est. value of the deck.  There is a market for ua-5's, so one would be able to get an est. value of the ua-5 in a sale.  So back to the original question, what is the bm2p+ worth?  Personally, I think the $400 mark is a legitimate estimate.  Just my $.02

Bullshit.

My response included two unnoted assumptions:

<1> you paid a typical market price for the unit
and/or
<2> you, like me, base your gear prices on what you paid (with potential exceptions if the current market value is radically different than when purchased)

My response was not intended to address exceptions in which one might pick up a piece of gear for far, far below its actual value, per your examples, or those in which one may attempt to cash in on a piece of gear's increased valuation due to shifts in the marketplace.  (Not suggesting your sale fell into one of these categories.)

At the time when I was looking for mine, I would have paid $450.00 for it, and would have jumped for it at $400.00, and now that I own one I will say that it is worth it. Chris does a great job.

Peace,
Dave
