Microtrack 24/96 doesn't like CF to SD adapters
« on: July 21, 2006, 06:22:53 AM »
I tried this SD to Compact Flash adapter:

http://www.mittoni.com.au/secure-digital-sd-to-cf-compactflash-card-adapter-type-ii-p-1238.html

It lets you use SD cards as Type II Compact Flash. Works like a charm in my XP and my PDA. You can even use MiniSD if you insert one adapter into another.

The Microtrack won't take it. I've tried formatting the card in various configurations, but the unit keeps asking to format the card and then hangs after a couple of minutes.

Some will want to know why I wanted to record to SD.  I'm a journalist. I can send the MP3 files I record on the field straight from my EVDO-enabled phone. The phone only takes SD. To me, converting from CF to SD means one more gadget in my pocket. I know I can go to the R-09 for SD, but I love the quality of a nice phantom-powered microphone.

In my dreams, I also wish the M-Audio had some kind of minimum editing functions, maybe "File Split", or "Extract"...

What kind of an SD card are you using?  The MT is a bit picky with the brands from what I understand.
dpa 4061 > Church Audio 9200 > Sony PCM-D50 (Moon Audio Silver Dragon v3 interconnect)

"I have no views," Mickey Melchiondo, known as Dean Ween, said in a philosophical moment. "I am way too stupid. I have no strong feelings about anything. I'm really into television and the computer. I believe everything I see on TV and read on the Internet."

One drawback I see with that is it says its limited to 1GB max.  What size card are you using?
AT853 (CMC-4)>3wire batt.box or SP box >Edirol R-09 or iRiver H120 or JB3
C4 > D-mod UA-5 >Edirol R-09 or iRiver H120 or JB3

I've tried a 1 Mb Kingmax SD and a 1 Mb Kingston MiniSD with the extra adapter. Both can be formatted with XP or Storage Tools in Windows Mobile to add extra Backup, as someone suggested in this forums.

Is there any particular brand that I should look at?
