JB3 ? - distorted level peaks or brickwalling?
« on: May 27, 2004, 11:40:49 AM »
I didn't see this in the FAQ, but:

Are there ever issues with distorted level peaks or brickwalling on the JB3?

Thanks.

Like all analog-in portable recording devices (that I know of), you can brickwall the JB3 by feeding it too hot an analog signal.

Do yourself a favor and buy a SVU-1 it well save alot of strain on your eyes and give ya real levels.

But, if the jb3's really brickwalling (i.e. its analog input is being overloaded by too strong of an analog signal), the suv-2 won't help.  The suv-2 is great for confirming that you're not getting digital overs, but brickwalling will frequently occur even if levels "look" fine.

Because the analog in on the jb3 is adjustable, you need to calibrate it to match the levels on the svu-x. As long as the meters on the jb3 don't pop into the little top over box, you'll be fine.
