460's or 480's
« on: September 25, 2011, 08:59:34 AM »
Just bought a pair of ck62's.  I have 460's and ck61's.
So I'd like your opinions as to which bodies to add, 460's or 480's.
My recording is mostly acoustic, classical and jazz.  The appeal of the 480 is the slightly lower self noise; they would also offer me more variety with the two sets of caps.
I also want to try the omni's and cards as a 4 mic array or cards with an omni center.
I have a good comp from here but havent' really studied it yet.
Opinions?

Thanks
Dave

1) I'd say go with the 480's if your budget only allows for one.  My buddy runs these.

2) Where'd you manage to find the CK62s if you don't mind me asking - I've been looking for a used pair for some time.  If they were new, how much did they run ya?  Thanks.

I'm leaning toward the 480's (unless I get some real bargain on 460's)
I got the 62's on ebay for $379.  They are minty:

BTW if anyone has a 460/480 comp of something classical, I love to hear it.

Thanks

Nice score.  I was originally gonna try and pick up some CK62's for my buddy's 480's but I might just buy DPA 4061's, get 'em terminated at 1/8" and then buy a Naiant PFA to power them when I need to run them on the 680.
