483 Mic config ??
« on: January 27, 2005, 05:21:28 PM »
Ok Imagine Running 483 >D-mod UA-5 >JB3 ,

Gov't Mule In a Nice sounding theater ,
12th row (which will turn out to be about 30-40ft from the stage )
DFC .
Would you run XY, DIN , ORTF?

Ive confused myself now with these Hypers.  Ive been running cards Cheap superlux Knockoff's (samson CO2's).
I assume the 483's will be "sorta" bright , so Im worried XY will loose to much of the that "Low end" Mule sound , Which I love

But worry that ORTF will create a "center" Gap in the Image

So is it the ever faithful DIN ?

TIA
Nick

3 cms...DIN is 20cm DINA is 17CM...DINA is generally for hypers....DIN can leave a hole in the middle of the soundstage with hypers

Yeah I have been pretty happy with 90 deg. and whatever distance they are as long as it looks fairly even to my eye.
Good luck :)

yup.
Jason dont really "tape",  He's more of a front row kinda guy , He does however own some taping Gear ;) Including your "old' 483's .
He has transfered enough old Mule DATs in the last 6 months that he said a couple weeks ago while having a couple of cold ones talking about taping the upcoming mule show. "If I ever buy a nice set of mics it will be a set of 480's"....  And yours came up on the board the next day so I put ya together , glad everything worked well with each other. and another +t to ease the pain of having to give them up..  :'(

were gonna give um a run tomorow eveing on a friend of ours local gig.

then Off to the Mule here in KC on 02-11 and then in columbia 2-17  ;D

For 480's it all depends on the room.  Don't worry about losing bass if you us ethe hypers.
If you are FOB look at the ceiling.  If you have a high shitty acoustic ceiling that is still a
reflection so use hypers, a short well difffused ceiling use cards.  Definitly use the AKG's.
They are best run DINa hypers, DIN cards.  If a place is boomy use XY, or use a mod DIN
with about a 70degree angle. Never would I use AKG's ORTF, it just takes away from the mid-high range
that the AKG's lack IMHO.  But what do I know ::)

callery
on the gap that people talk about, unless you have a very good playback system, this will not be as
much an issue.  I think alot of people are scared to use wide angles b/c of hearing a gap, spacing will
be more of an enemy in this idea
