Topic: 480 mic case solutions...

Right now I am using a pelican 1060 to house my 480 with two sets of caps.  Just wondering how everyone else is protecting their mics?  Something a little smaller.

Pictures would be appreciated as well as links.

Anyone use this http://www.portabrace.com/productB-MH-3  <- NM, its a holster thought there was padding in one picture.

Bean I am going to look at the toothbrush holders this weekend when the stores open back up.

I remember at one time someone suggested that, but for 460's/480's I'm pretty sure you're not gonna find one with a big enough diameter.

Somewhere down in the TS.com history (maybe 6 months ago?), there are some pics of a cool small mic holder someone sewed up a handy deal.  It was basically a long envelope type of thing made from felt.   The outside edges were sewn together to make a pocket.  The pocket was stitched down the center to make two long narrow pockets a little bigger than the size of your mics...big enough so you can slip your mics down into after it's all sewn up.  He left a flap at the open end that folded back over to close over the tops of the mics.  Finally, a velco closing strip was sewn on both the inside of the flap and on the outside of the pocket in order to hold the flap closed during storage.

I use the 1060 and find it a perfect fit in my Nova5 bag.  Fits all caps but the guns.  Plus what else will protect the gear if someone accidentally runs over the gear?  ;-}  A padded sewn together case makes me nervous for a few grand in gear.

I always ran mine in one of the little clear plastic Plano tackle boxes. They are cheap at any Walmart & you can line them with sticky felt so the mics do not get scratched.

Iirc the 480s are about the size of the bluelines right? If so, I get mine and an extra set of caps in a pelican 1040 which is a lot smaller than the 1060.

Kev, PM me this weekend to remind me, and I'll snap a pic of my walmart toothbrush solution Steve Toney aka tonedeaf runs the EXACT same cases and I think he is more than happy with the space its saving I also think they could protect them in damn near any sitaution except a car running over them

Nope the Bluelines are smaller than the 480's don't know if the 480's would fit in a Pelican 1040.

Thats also the exact case I keep my MBHO Bodies with actives in. my rt-angle xlr's exit the left side of the case nicely! Works GREAT for those!!!

I run Gefells, but they are pretty much the same size as the 480s.  I use a Tupperware container that I bought at the grocery store for like $5 and then lined it with some foam that I purchased at Michael's crafts store.  No pictures, but it works great.

I went all around Atlanta today trying to find something I like but nothing compares to the pelican, in my opinion.  So I decided to keep the pelican although im going to retire the 1060 because it was signed by Warren Haynes and want to keep the signature legible.  I bought a 1040 which will fit the mics and caps in it but I can not keep the caps attached to the bodies.  Im about to order the foam online.  The solution to carry all my gear in the PB AR-7 w/RM-multi is going to be purchasing a lowepro lense case to store my shock mounts and attach to the bag.  When I get everything in next week I will post pictures of the new setup.

Good idea...just hang it around the strap.  I've seen lotsa Crown Royal bags doing the same thing...I don't drink much other than beer and wine, or I'd probably make use of them too!

I keep my headphones attached to my strap in a CR bag. works great!

I'm the one who made the pouch you're talking about. It been very convenient for me. I have a separate little case I use to store the caps.

how many 480's do you have?

Both of those pouches will fit in one Shure mic bag too, if extra protection is needed.

The material is the thick pleather. I find that it works very well.

This is decidedly inelegant, but 8x10" bubble-wrap bags are actually the perfect size for these mics.  I just slip 'em in, roll 'em up, and fasten with a couple of velcro ties.  After a few months when the bubbles start wearing out, I throw 'em out (the bags, not the 480s) and grab two new ones.  They're about four bucks for half a dozen at Staples.







The wrapped mics fit snugly in a compartment in my bag so they don't get jostled.

I'll have to ask my wife to make me one of those pouches though, they're way cooler!  +t all around

nice solutions guys. this just goes to show that there isnt just one way to do something, but many different ways that all fulfill the same needs Those ouches Chuck showed are pretty badass, but I bet the bubble wrap protects a bit better.
