Title: what xlr>xlr mic cables do you like?
Post by: bodegahwy on January 16, 2005, 05:48:17 PM
I am looking for something that might be a little lighter and less of a pain to coil.  20' xlr to xlr balanced (shielded?)  any recommendations?

the AM's are very light and take up no space at all.  they do, however, have a pretty strong coil 'memory' and can be a little stiff

for these purposes go with the audio magic hypers,  but let me tell you- when i think of weight, my mic cables have never been where i'd look to drop weight.  also, 20' is a pretty long run for your cable unless you are running at 17' regularly.

Thanks everybody,  I want to do some taping of friends that have a BG band.  They play an accoustic gig (no amplification) every week.  The best setup would be to have my mics over in front of them, but run cables to a table on the side.  I used to run into this problem years ago too (just getting back into it)  I do have some 20 footers, but they are low grade cables I used to use for amplification in a P.A. and the darn things seem to like to get tangled.  Maybe the cables with a better coil memory would help?

Perhaps I should stick with the old cables for the BG band and get better ones for other things.  I'll look into the cables suggested.

Budget? How about under $250 for a pair.  Cables join the mess in the box and are not visable to my wife.  (just try to sneak the purchase of a new guitar!)  I did go look at the cable prices... I should have known you could spend a grand on them!

Thanks again +t all around

I'll second the make your own. You can so so for well under your $250 budget, even under $100. Heck, I think my 15 footers cost me about $35 - $40.

Thanks again,

I would not know where to begin to make my own.  No place within 200 miles sells any of this stuff (parts, cable etc)  I've never done it before, don't have any tools.  I think this time around I would rather pay the price.
