zeppelin for wind protection?
« on: April 07, 2004, 07:54:59 AM »
I do a good bit of festival taping, invariably in the mountains, so wind is usually an issue.  I've occasionally seen those big zeppelins that house both mics together and have some questions about them.  Has anybody on the board tried using one?  Are they more effective than windscreens?  Do they affect the sound quality/clarity?  I run AKG 461/3 and currently use DPA 0896 windscreens. Thanks.

Sorry, don't have any info on zeppelins, but I use the "big-ass" Shure A81WS screens and have used them in pretty darn strong wind conditions with great results.  Used 'em last summer at Rockygrass with no issues.  FWIW.

Is this zeplin thing like a blimp?  Like... fill it with helium and let the powers of mighty mother nature guide your mics...?  Anybody got a pic of this, or am I just confucius?

I do think taping is the reality of the business..it is also an impetus for artists to create studio CDs that are ART, not just another recording...    Fareed Haque  2-4-2005

Ahhh... I see.  That looks like it would work quite well. Thanx!

hey moke, lets see em'.   i'd love to see what you did..  I was gonna make some here pretty soon for fun..  I was going to incorperate the material for pop screens, and windscreens together to make a badass one.  tonight might be a good night for that.  peace.
