Title: Tascam HD-P2 woes...
Post by: bdasilva on June 07, 2007, 01:12:27 PM
Taped witha buddy that rarely tapes... Due to limitations he ended up patching out of the rcas on the back of my SVU2... We monitored the headphones (same SVU2) and it sounded fine.
I recorded to my laptop thru the UA-5. (except I lost 16 sec when someone stumbled into my laptop and it hit the analog/digital switch on the front of the UA-5 but thats another story) and my recording was fine.

We looked down and twice during the show the unit was locked up and not recording... (locked up)

We ended with 25db of hum in his recording But not all of it...

Do you need more info??? any Ideas?

what was the input set to on the tascam?

I'm thinking the signal out of the rcas from your SVU2 wasn't "hot" enough.

just a guess...

was it set to 24 bit(which is the default)?? or 16 bit..

It was set to line in and 16bits... Had good levels
He was using a microdrive... could it be screwed up and causing the lockup... many 135 (or so) and two shorter ones (where it locked up)

Brian, it likely was the microdrive. I pretty much can get a piece of gear to screw up with the best of them but I've never had anyhting like that happen with the P2 in a year and a half but I always use CF cards. There is a check media feature on the unit, It might be worhtwhile to pop that microdrive in and run it. Its under the media management menu.

i had a similar problem with mine once where i had been taping about an hour and i did what i normally did then to check the display (switch hold off and on), when i noticed it froze up. I was worried about it and couldnt do anything on the fly to unfreeze it so i waited until a break in songs and i took a batt out and put it  back in (the only way i could turn it off). I started recording again with no problems the rest of the night. When i xfered i found that the thing was still recording while it was froze up and i was only missing about 10 seconds during that song break. Never happened again

I have never had a problem.  I use a ultra 2 8gig card.
