at853 rx's +ps2
« on: March 24, 2005, 01:04:38 AM »
Does anybody know if a ps2 would give enough gain to power a pair of 853rx's?  I'm looking at using the rx's to stealth with and I if I don't have to carry a pre-amp, I figured this would be a good way to provide power for the mics.  I would run this straight into my d100.

Edited, because I answered my 2nd question by adding deneke in front of ps2 and searching only the yard sale.  :)

Also, I hope I posted this in the right forum, I didn't know if it was a mic only question or pre's so I put it in this one.   Thanks for any help.

Jeff

Jeff,

This is the setup that will work fine for you:

AT853RX > Denecke PS2 > Denecke AD20 preamp > ?

I used this setup w/ a JB3 for a bunch of shows.  You'll love your recording.

You can get caps for the At853RX cheap, here, for around $28/capsule, last we all checked:

You'll need the AD20 to boost your gain.  The PS2 only powers the mics, but doesn't provide gain.

What's the right order here?

AT853 > PS2 > AD20 > JB3

or

AT853 > AD20 > PS2 > JB3

??

From what I've read, you can do it w/o the AD-20 if you get transformers.  I don't know anything about transformers though, so that's about as much help as I am.  I do know its possible.  I believe Keepongoin' has done this before.... maybe he can help?
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

transformers jeff....yes, the the PS-2 box will be perfect for giving phantom power, then you can go to a set of AT or Hosa transformers which will give you the bump you need to get to line level for the deck.

The first one.

alright, so I can go 853's > ps2 > transformers > d100.  I've seen transformers before (I'm trying to figure out how much stuff I will be carrying into a show in my pants :) ).  I'm going to research it a little more, because for only a $100 more I might be able to find a used mp2 down the road.  Thanks for the help.
