Title: 24 bit WAV files converting into FLAC???
Post by: svenkid on October 27, 2006, 02:36:22 AM
I just loaded my 24 bit files into my flacfrontened program on my PC, and it said "error rate, file is 24 bit, it needs to be 16 bite"

so how do folks do flacs of 24 bit? are there certain settings the flacfrontened program needs to be on?

-24 bit n00b

Hoping this works for ya, I never had a problem converting 24 bit files.

I unchecked it, and it worked fine. I wonder why that was an issue, but then I never understood what sector boundry stuff was all about, just that it was preffered to have that box checked in the flac program. Thanks for the latenite replies.

sector boundary errors only apply to 16/44.1 or CD's.  so when flacing anything but 16/44.1 you need to uncheck it.

well, what about this? I unchecked it, and I tried to encode the whole set, which is one big file, and it worked, but when I tried the individual tracks, it didnt work, the message said:
Warning: Found non-standard 'fmt' subchunk which has length = 40
Unsupported Compression type 65534

the subchunk error shouldn't make any difference.

did you cut it up in CD WAV?  If so you need to save the cut up files as "alt 24 bit format" box checked in CD WAV.

Speaking of CDWAV, I always get an error about the header when opening .wav's from my microtrack. Do you guys always "repair" the header with CDWAV? I think I read somewhere that it doesn't matter because flac.exe will fix the header anyways once it's a flac. What do you guys think?

Same issue with the MT as with the JB3.  Short answer:  doesn't matter.  More info:  http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=53348.msg695406#msg695406
