Anyonehave a comparsison of 480>248>minime to sbm?
« on: December 13, 2004, 05:34:40 PM »
I have been considering getting rid of the minime maily because of the size of it and using those obnoxious cal pots (BTW does anyone know if theres a way to change the call pot levels during recording without getting that horrible noise?).  Anyway I was wondering if anyone had a comparison of 480s>248>minime to 480s>248>SBM1.
thanks
Kevin

Marc had that same problem... there are some springs that apogee will send you to take care of the problem.

I'd go with the sbm-1 if you don't need 24bit
I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

+T preciate that, im going to get those ASAP.  Ive heard tons of wades(bobbyhurley) recordings and they sound awesome I just want to hear a comparison if anyone has one.  I kinda want to keep the apogee and get the sbm1 in addition ill just have to check my funds at the end of the month.

you should be able to calibrate the MMe to your 248, so you can just adjust levels using the preamp. Check sonic sense's website for details.

Take care,
Ben

ive read that before but doug says to run the 248 either all the way down or just barely up.  Someone correct me if im wrong.
So that means if I calibrate it, as suggested on the web site I would have to adjust the levels on the preamp which is not what I want to do.

The 248 has a slight HF boost and if you go past 3/4 way on the gain it becomes VERY pronounced.
I've run the m248 with gain 1/2 way with fine results, I would try to not go much more than 1/2 open
though.  I'd calibrate the MME to the m248 with the oade at about 1/4 gain at home and adjust the
oade at the show from that point.

you shouldn't have any noise when adjusting the cal pots....sounds like dirty pots...try some clean can air.  If that doesn't resolve it send it in.  The springs are to apply tension on the gain knobs (when out of the cal mode detent).  I just installed mine yesterday and that really tightened up the "free spin" that can happen.  So now it won't be as sucesssceptable to being bumped in the bag...My next step it to break out the router and make a box that allows the top (gain knobs) and bottom (connectors) to be protected.
