Post by: seethreepo on July 31, 2016, 01:38:57 PM
compared to a miniature deck (r-09, M-10)  an adult  human hand  etc.  I'm trying to compare to some other clamps I've recently purchased but I dont have a local source to see on in person.

Here's a pic of a Manfrotto Superclamp, a Nano clamp clone, one of my M10s and a Cardellini clamp. (Drawback: Tall people = large hands.)

Thanks If Then !

Exactly what I needed to see.  I have one of the nano's and wanted to see a size comparison.  I too have big hands.  :P

Forgot the bigger Cardellini clamp in the first picture... This is a recent picture of it for "stage-lip" use.

That clamp can be bought for $9.95 respectively $9.98 via amazon.com. It might be the same clamp (under a different name) anyway.

B&H $19.95 if you're set on Impact? For anything of substantial weight I'd go with the original Manfrotto superclamp.

Curious what you're basing this on?  Honest question.  I have both Manfrotto and Impact superclamps and, to my eyes and for my uses, they appear nearly identical to me.  The parts of each are even interchangeable.

You're probably right, at least if you're only going to use these clamps only with your mics or even with a short extension arm. But I've already used them with my video camera and a Benro S8 video head. And that video head is massive. I don't want to find out the hard way that the knock-off version is actually less sturdy. (Once, I've even managed to break one of these massive Manfrotto spigots that got seized in the internal threading of the Benro S8.)

The Manfrotto and Impact superclamps have the same load capacity and, while I'm not a structural engineer, appear to have the same heft and build quality.  I can't say I've ever used them with video cameras but have used both brands for hanging multiple mics on heavy extension arms, etc, and have never had a failure (knock on wood).  While there are some items between the two brands where I would agree with you (ie: buy the Manfrotto), I don't think the superclamp is one of them.  Comes down to personal preference and if the extra $10 is worth it to you and gives you extra peace of mind.
