Topic: EQing an arena recording - what freqs do you normally scoop

I tape in arenas very rarely (read: basically never) so I haven't put a lot of thought into this, but I got a nice  pull with my DPAs last night at MSG.  Obviously I plan to trust my ears, but I'm hoping other people's ears can save me some time.  What frequencies do you find you scoop to reduce that nasty stadium-boomy sound?  I was center and the PA was good, but I mean, it's an arena recording, no two ways about it. 

And yes, before team CMR/Schoeps fanboys chime in, I know I could just get a lowpro setup for my mk41s and solve some of the issue... but I like my DPAs.

If you have a multi-band EQ just try each fader.  I eliminate room resonances in the 150-250hz pretty often.  Arena "boom" might be a bit lower. Start with the 80hz fader and experiment to see what sounds best.

With Wavelab, I look at the spectrum during playback, and usually the highest of the mid frequencies are what I lower to get rid of the echo, but it really is trial and error.  I dig using wavelab because I can just open up a Q-10 equalizer and tweak with it WHILE it is playing back, so that I get on-the-fly feedback.  The frequency ranges already stated are around the ones that I usually end up reducing as well, FWIW...

I start with high pass 60htz, and generaly have to move to 80 or even 100htz.  Trust your ears.  Echo is above that in the 150htz range which I might lower 1db, up to 2db, but 2db is an awfully lot.  Trust your ears.  Try different settings.  Depends on location and mike used.  Omnis will be more challenging.
