I'm not sure if this will be of interest to anyone else, but since I did it, I might as well share it. Here's the back story:
I had been hearing a buzz in one channel of my dpa 4023 set every few shows. It was very light and only every 3 or 4 shows. One show it was constant, so I assumed the cable wasn't plugged in right. I set the pair up in my office and let it run for hours and never noticed it. I swapped cables, swapped preamp sources, etc and could not isolate what the issue was. I finally decided to send them into DPA in Colorado to have them evaluated. The Denmark crew is the only group that will look at the 402x series anymore. They evaluated them and said basically, "both are out of spec. we'll sell you an extra set of 4023s for $1800." While a good deal, I decided to ask about an upgrade to the modular series and they gave me a 40% discount, which I jumped at. I assumed they would keep my "bad" 4023s because of the discount on the 4011s. To my surprise, when I opened the package from Denmark, I got a new set of 4011s, with the MMP-ER cables and my 4023s. I decided I needed to compare the two with the same preamp to see how "bad" they really were. At a DMB show in Bend, OR (open air amphitheater), I ran the 4011s and 4023s into a Sonosax sx-r4+, and my 4028s into my sx-m2d2. My initial listen shows no audible difference between the 4023s and 4011s. However, I had the gain about 7 db higher on the 4023 pair - so that's significant.
