Help With A Visivox Battery Box/Preamp...
« on: July 16, 2004, 04:47:38 PM »
Ok I just got a used Visivox Battery Box/Preamp today, and I am having a little trouble with it...

I know all my microphones (I have two sets) work because I just tested them in the "Mic In," settings of my MD, and they work fine...Problem is I am trying to record with this Battery Box, and I am pretty sure I have everything attached correctly...

I have the 6' cord Visivox provided with goes into the right side of the Battery Box (the seller has it marked "I," for input,) and the other end of that which goes into my "Line In," or Optical plug on my MD...

Now I plug my microphone into the Left Side of the Battery Box (labeled "M" by the seller," and turn the plug to the Left, where the Mic is plugged into...If I turn it to the right, nothing is recording, and I hear no sounds (which makes sense)..

Anyway, I am getting recordings, but for some reason the sound is only coming out of the left side of my speakers, I went to verify this in Soundforge and indeed it is true..I've tested the other MD's he sent me with live music on them and they seem to play fine through my speakers.

Why am I only getting sound recorded with the left side it seems like, the cables all seem to be tight, everything seems to be in place?

Any suggestions..

Thanks.

do you have a miniplug > rca adapter? if so, you can try to run it into your stereo, test it, then switch the RCAs and test it again. that's one way to determine it's definitely a bad channel.

There isnt much inside the visivox box just a couple of cana-kit amps.  Have you checked the patch cable to make sure that it is good?  Either you have a bad cable or one of the connections inside came off of one of the jacks....

Well  I just used the 1/8" Cable I got with my actual MiniDisc, and it works fine now..

So it is safe to assume that it was the other faulty cables right?

Thanks.
