hi all,
here's a fun one, and i'm dead serious: i need to record a vibrator (sex toy). >:D
i'll be using my beloved microtrak II with a sony ecm ms907 mic. i don't know why, but i'm imagining i should record it from below, with the vibrator suspended so as not to pick up vibrations from a table or anything i'd set it on. it's one of those bullet-type vibes that's on the end of a long wire that connects to to the power source and controls (the vibrator, not the microphone!). should i rig up some sort of cone around the bullet like a megaphone, to amplify the sound, or maybe around the mic to capture the sound waves? any help would be greatly appreciated. tasteful, board-friendly joking around is cool (and expected...), but i actually am serious about this. thanks in advance!
cheers,

Ok I'll be the first to take a "shot" ;D A-put in ass(no extra vibration), B- hit record

I gotta ask
Why???

In all seriousness I recommend a trick that the original sound eng on Star Wars used. Stick the vibrator on a solid surface, next put a cooking pot/kettle over the vibrator with a wedge under one side. Either under or next to the wedge place your microphone and hit record.
For several vehicle sounds they did something very similar but instead of using a vibrator they used an electric razor. Recorded the vibrations from the razor in the pot/kettle and then either sped up the track or slowed it down to get the speeder sounds.

should i rig up some sort of cone around the bullet like a megaphone,
That right there conjures up all kinds of possibilities and images. ;D

Is this on your 'bucket' list?

"Need" or "want"?

ha ha ha all around... ;D
i have a real nice multi-speed vibe that i'm going to use as rhythm tracks in a song i'm writing.
@ofotd: thanks for that one!
anyone else with any suggestions, though, feel free to chime in.
thanks!

A single omni mic. Should work at a distance of about 1 foot. In a very quiet room... I think that would produce the best quality sound ;)

I have no idea what it would do but possibly suspend it in some sort of can (coffee can) held in between your legs. Have your mic on a stand aiming into the can. Haha I really don't know that would be one you would have to experiment with a bit i guess. Let us know what works best for ya. Good luck with the self pleasuring..

I mean in all honesty, I usually only work with black double dong dildo's. OP, if youre not talking about said "flavor" of vibe, contact Jim (atleast6characters), and have him ask his mom. I KNOW shell have the answer. ;D

I wish he was lying, folks... the man has the answers!

The most important aspect of any recording is not the equipment used or the technique, but the quality of the performance by the talent.
