Here's one:

Not sure what models work the best. Still a little pricey for me.

FRY's has one on sale this week, ~$250 i think

The media is the killer($10-$20), needs to get in the ~2$ range to compete w/ DVD, $4 for Dual Layer.  DVD-DL needs to get down to ~50 cents.

I'm skipping the DVD thing.  I finish editing and encode into h264.  From there I store in my computer and playback on my AppleTV.  I use Final Cut Pro, so I just save the (very small) project file.  If I ever need to re-edit, I just import the tape again and redo it.  I recognize that tape is not an archive format, but I do make duplicates.  And maybe someday DVD media will get cheaper, but at the rate hard drives are going, it looks like I'll store stuff there in the future (redundant, of course).

Hope that helps.  I've just been through the process, and while BR might make sense for an individual, it sucks for trading, thus h264...

I'm just authoring 20 min seqments to DVDR (using Vegas Pro 8 and DVD Architect 5) with an ordinary DVD burner.  I archive the assets used to DVDR too.  When BD burners and media come down to close where DVD is now, I'll reauthor compilations onto BD.  Note that if you burn BD to DVDR, you MUST use premium media, or else you will get stuttering and/or audio dropouts.
