could be old news, i've seen them around for a while but have not ready any posts.

New generation.  the old 822 and 825 are still in production, but now they have two more:

Oddly, the caps are not mounted in a 90deg angle, but are 180deg from each other.  Somehow, this makes XY, i'm sure due to electronic mumbo-jumbo that tweaks it.

and the more expensive 4025 (which looks the same)

This is an LD version of the 8022, and uses the same weird capsule alignment.

Response looks a little flatter, pattern looks wider.  Seems a primary design goal was for a narrower, more streamlined housing.  It is a nicer looking mic.



I'd really like to know how they get that 120 degree inclusive angle on the stereo polar plots with the caps facing 180 degrees apart?  Closeup of the 8022 innards (the thumbnails below link to hi rez close-ups)-

Don't know how they get the 120 degrees out of two caps facing 180 deg apart either; perhaps one of The Wise Ones on the forum will chime in.

Too bad AT did not just keep the 180 deg angle.  If they did, you could have a variable pattern mic that you can adjust in post like the Nevaton MC404 or Sennheiser MKH800 Twin, but for a lot less money.  Two of those 8022s would allow you to do a Double M/S setup for less than $800.

i recall someone saying on here with a bit of cabling magic, you could get the 822 to put out a psudeo fig-8 signal (but the caps wernt postioned right).
