Title: Radiohead taping?
Post by: joeshambro on August 13, 2003, 11:22:40 PM
Anyone know what the deal is with taping Radiohead?  I remember back a tour or two ago they were allowing open taping, but that may have changed...  I'm wanting to tape this coming 23rd, so either way, stand or stealth, I'll get it done...

Thanks for the help, because I'm  ??? when it comes to their policy.

as far as i know they're cool as long as no stands are used.  Im planning on taping the merriweather show.  Ill be in the middle of the lawn.  This was recommended to me.  Hope to see you there. ;D

Hit the show last night and there were definitely no stands other than the LD mics they were using by the soundboard (didn't get close enough to see what they were using). I don't think they go so far as to alert security so you'll probably have to crotch to get in, but once you're by them I'd think you're ok.

I would have taped myself but I went with the wife and a few friends and knew there'd be others with much better seats... My first Radiohead and they put on a hell of a show. Too bad you can't tape light shows - amazing setup they've got!

stealth....similar to U2 from what I understand...don't care too much about it...but are not going to advise the venue to help you out.

FWIW from BTAT:

No professional recording equipment. Personal audio recording equipment (e.g. Walkman) allowed. No video cameras. Personal still cameras allowed.
Recent reports indicate that security is allowing pro gear in the door and full rigs have been sighted inside

ps i'm gonna carry my rig out to merriweather next weds and see what happens.

i got everything in last night, but the tape sounds like total ass.  I mean really ass.  Oh well.

Damon, what were you wearing and how did your tape come out.  Cause i saw someone with the comic book guy shirt with a mic stand in his hand.  Bri's avatar.  I knew you were going so i thought it might be you.

Taping Red Rocks here.

Main goal is to get the SM + Jicks set. If I see someone else taping Radiohead with a nice setup I might just let them do it so I can enjoy their set a bit more / go take a wizz etc.

I'll be posting the results on my website. www.acidcasualties.com.

Later,
MIKE B

no, last time i saw them i wasn't a taper...just patching minidisc at that point and i didn't bring it cuz i didn't know what their policy was.
if i had some low profile gear to use, AND a ticket to the show!, i would definitely go and tape.  it's tomorrow night....

somone got a stand in last time around in boston maybe???  tape sounds sweet!

who knows?  someone should take a stand up to the gate... if they let you in...  go ahead and see what happens...  if they send you back, crotch your gear to another gate...  what's to lose?

i'm going to woodlands... have no idea what seats i've got (waste), but i may try to bring a full rig *con* stand in there, i'm not on a first name basis w/ guards, but they KNOW i tape pretty much every show i see there.

Yeah, Boston '01 had a sweet setup in there...about 6' right next to the board, full rig. Nothing like that this time around though they had a pair of LD mics at the soundboard - probably for the FM feed, which I heard was audience instead of SBD...

Got in with absolutely no problems last night..  mics in shoes, power supply in my pocket, just acted like it was with my cellphone, they didn't even look at it twice..  deck in the small of my back/against the back of my pants, didn't get patted there, and the RCA>1/8 cable was in one of my cargo pockets, didn't even get checked..

Tape sounds  :realhappy:.

Few pops of diginoise here and there...  it's about time to retire the D7 I think..

Mix is stereo, but they have line arrays that point down right below the stacks with what sounds like a mono, very loud mix, so I stood right under that and taped away..

I'll BitTorrent it soon for all..

I taped at alpine but it was the first show I have ever taped and even though I've listened to hundreds of shows I can't decide if my recording is ok...  or sucks.  It's not GREAT...  But it's not bad...  I was using at853's>sp batt box>jb3

I missed the first couple songs.  :(

I uploaded a mp3'd track to my parents web server...
http://www.elvis77.com/karma.mp3

I just want some opinions...  If people think it's worth it I will BT it.

Also the levels are fairly low...  Should I try to fix this before I BT it?  Or just leave it low.

Also should I not offer a BT because of the first two missing songs?

And if I do offer it up should I try to find a diff source to fill in the missing songs?

A fellow posted on  another list saying he has spliced together two sources from Alpine and will be posting it as a Bit Torrent.

I ended up NOT TAPING last night at Red Rocks. Too much trouble. They did nothing to keep GA people out of the reserved section and it was PACKED.

Well worth it. I had a blast. Great show.

i know this topic is old, but i taped the alpine show too, and was wondering whatever happened with the matrix of the alpine show.  i was just wondering if my source was one of the ones that was in it.  Radiohead is the reason i got into live shows and taping, this was my first time taping them, and minus the first song i think my recording sounds really good.

Specul

you in the fuzz?  wise fools pub just asked me if they could open for us...let me know what you think of them if you aren't in the group.  i dont know anything about them.

Post by: Ed. on October 15, 2003, 01:06:15 AM
well, i'm kinda in the fuzz, i don't play any instruments, but i go to all their practices and all their shows, and hang out with them every weekend and live with half of them.  i'm kinda their biggest fan/roadie/groupie/own personal band taper.

I met them like 3 years ago at a friend of a friends house party, we've been hanging out ever since, they're an odd bunch, but for the most part, nice guys.  I personally think they kick ass.  They're music is a cross between flaming lips, grandaddy, and radiohead if you ask me...its space rock type stuff, kinda hard to explain.  They have some mp3s you can download on their website if you're interested.  I've taped almost all their shows for the last year and half and we're supposed to be putting them all up on the site in shn/flac...but i've been slacking.

It'd be awesome if you guys played together, you might wanna contact Joe Davis, he's the manager, super nice guy.  I think his email is relations@thefuzz.net  if that doesn't work, it should be on the site.

I'm gonna try to figure out BT tonight at work, and hopefully the Starlight Mints and Corn Mo sets will be up tomorrow.  Hopefully the spree set will be up soon too, i'm waiting for the spree archival guys to finish with it.
