Title: Ipod formatting???
Post by: ts on February 28, 2008, 10:13:04 AM
Is this done in itunes or right on the ipod? I want to wipe out 2 of them. One is I think a 3rd gen 40 gig non color display and the other a 2 gig nano 1st gen. The itunes that supported both of these units are now supporting new units. So I am fearful of plugging the older units back into their respective itunes. Or does that not matter?

I don't use itunes with my 8gb nano but I did have some trouble getting it mounted after I formatted it.. I'm using linux.  There was some weirdness.... I can't remember how I finally got it working.

 ???

Maybe my topic is not worded correctly. I want to erase everything on 2 ipods so I can sell them.

But if you plug it back in to itunes, without dropping anything on it, itunes will recognize it as an ipod and format the neccesary firmware on to it.

Yikes! I certainly don't want that to happen.

itunes does it. Plug it in and use the restore option.  It will erase everything and restore to the original settings.
