CHEAP tv
« on: August 16, 2005, 07:59:38 AM »
my sister is moving into an apt that's TINY. she's looking for some sort of lcd tv (around 20 inch?) but she wants it around the 400 dollar price range, so that definitely doesn't leave much.  costco and places like that have a bunch of envision and other companies most people haven't heard of.  should she just go with one of those, or does anyone here know of some magical deal that i won't find on pricewatch or anywhere else for her? :)

is this even do-able?

How tiny is TINY?

You might want to peruse J and R to see what they have, looks like there are a few 20"s in that range, you can also compare side by side with some other models (you're in the NYC area right?).

CNN had an article today discussing the price drop on panels - basicly backing up what was suggested here already in another thread.  It looks like if she can wait into the fall, the prices will be better.

and cheshirecat, her living room is more like a closet.  i haven't seen it in person, but in pictures it's ridiculously small.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

When I was doing a lot of reading about the LCD panels. The Syntax stuff seemed to get a lot of fluff for the $ they have a 20" in that price range. I have seen it in person at staples and it looked pretty nice. It only had a PC connected so I didn't see the TV and DVI inputs

Also I was at compusa a few weeks ago (yes I know, they suck but I needed a newe mouse and didnt want to wait for shipping) and they had several different brands side by side so it might be worth taking a visit to get an idea of what picture you like best. I really liked the LG Electronics stuff. I thought their picture was way beyond anything else similar

Does she have a computer?

If so drop a tv tuner in it and use that for the TV...  Then you have a 20" TV and a 20" monitor...  saving even more space.

Dell runs some good deals on flat panels...  just make sure you take advantage of all the coupons and stuff.

Or here is a 19" flat panel from newegg

$246.99 after rebate/shipping

A dual use panel is a good idea.   When I bought my 19" from dell, there were also offering a wide format 21" for about $400 using the combined discount codes.
