Leveling out a gradual volume adjustment
« on: January 28, 2013, 11:37:18 PM »
I'm working on a show that's a couple of years old and I need to stop putting it off. I gradually lowered the recording volume about 12db over a space of 1 minute. I'd like to reverse this. Should I chop up that 1 minute section into 24 2.5 second chunks and add .5db increases incrementally? I don't think my software has a volume envelope function, and I'm under the impression that Audacity (1.3.14-beta for the Mac) doesn't do well exporting 24-bit files. Any suggestions?

Reaper has an easy envelope tool. Free trial and not too expensive to buy. Mac and windows

some folks have programs that will do so, cut the area as a track and list the db increase you want, I'd be glad to try it.

Agreed on the envelope tool.  Any program with it should work.  Reaper is a free trial indefinitely which is pretty nice.  Current Audacity works just fine as well.

Only caveat about Reaper, the envelope tool maxes out at +6 DB, you'll need to drag down below 0 DB to -6db to get the 12 db of change you are looking for.
