Core Sound HEB
« on: May 06, 2004, 12:22:06 AM »
I'm looking for opinions and sound samples of the Core Sound HEB / DPA4060 mics. I currently have CSB, CSC and SS DSM's and am looking for something more satisfying.  I wish the DPA's were cardiods and/or had exchangeable capsules for the miniature models. I'm only interested in mics which are generally worn and don't require phantom power to run. I'm looking for stealth mics to reproduce rock oriented concerts in smaller, to mid-size venues. Any suggestions...comments...corrections. Thanks.

Dunno who's carrying them yet, as they're pretty new.  I can't wait to hear them, though.

Thanks John, I hadn't seen those yet. DPA says the engineers are considering a lavalier style, but for now those are available in a metal headband mount only.

I'm sure you could take them out of the headband. ;)

FYI:
I just got a spec sheet from DPA on the new mini cardioids, unfortunately they are only rated 100Hz-20KHz, judging from this spec looks like these would be pretty bright sounding.  If I can get to a scanner I will post the freq resp. sheet.

Take care,
Ben

you wouldnt need a bass rolloff for it though, i always hear the stealthers talk about bass rolloff on there battery boxes and this looks like you dont even need it with the cutoff at 100hz

screw that. cutting freqs below 100 Hz? not for music. these new mini cardioids must be meant for close-up vocal applications.

if you want to hear how the 406xs should sound, get a hold of alex's darkness BT or my king crimson 10-31-03. turn it up, then place your order! :)

What do you guys suggest, going for the 4060's and padding when necessary or buying the 4061's?

I've never overloaded the 4060s, even at loud club shows, dead in front of the stack.  I'm sure it's possible, but these things have a pretty high spl limit.  There have certainly been times, though, when a more padded mic (like the 4061) probably wouldn't have given me the gain I was looking for.  I'm all about the 4060s.  Peace.

I checked out Alex's Darkness recording which sounds very nice. Smooth top, thick mids and a nice bottom on that tape.
