Nak CM700 ???'s
« on: October 03, 2005, 03:54:35 PM »
The old Nak CM700 mod used the supplied Nak -15db attenuator barrel, which came as an accessory with the 700 set. The mod consisted of just the barrel, cap and custom power supply, connected via cable and bnc connector. marc is looking at doing his franken mod with my 700's and i'm wondering if we should use the regular barrel or the -15db attenuator barrel.

Stick with the -15db atten. barrel. From almost everyone who has run the mod 700's for a considerable amount of time told me the 0db barrel sounded like shit for some reason. This includes many of the earlier Nak700 pioneers who used to do tons of FOB Dead pulls with the mod 700 config (i.e.- Mark Severson and others during the 80's).

One drawback is that the -15db barrel does require more gain from your pre to obtain desired recording levels, so if you're in the "section" at a large show, you'll find that you'll have to crank the ol gain a bit more than you would normally have to do when running up front. They're perfect for FOB applications though (as the idea was conceived & intended to be used in).

that's great tony you are modding your 700s, i can't wait to get my 300s back from him.  having all my mics "actives" is going to be sweet.  i ran my mg setup last night for the first time and am loving the much quicker setup/teardown time as opposed to running full bodies.

my fingers are crossed on the 700's. i'm sure he'll be able to do it. they are quite small. it's been hell trying to find mounts and screens. i'm hoping the audix micro shocks and small dpa's will work.

the small dpa windscreens are perfect. now i just need some clips. my guess is the audix micro clips will work, not the shock version, just the stock ones. anyone know where to get them?
