I just picked up an AT822 (battery powered stereo mic). Do I run line-in or mic-in to my R-09HR?

Mike in, unless you're using some kind of amplifying device between the microphone and the recorder.

If they mic is battery powered you should be ok just using line-in it may be a little cleaner...

The battery in the 822 replaces the need for phantom power. (In fact, the 822 cannot be phantom powered without modification.) The output of the mic is quite low for a condenser, so you will want to connect it to a mic input.

I definitely needed the mic-in. Perhaps for a louder show line-in would be fine, but I usually tape quiet, acoustic stuff.
