Title: S/PDIF Cables
Post by: blu666z on March 01, 2004, 03:45:41 PM
I have a couple of the BIG orange cables from Rat Shack.  I like it a lot but it is way too long for use in my bag.  Also would be better with a right angle.  Any problems with cutting off one end to shorten it and add the right angle?  Where is the best place to get the new connectors?

My problem with Markertek is actually finding what you want.  Seems to be hard without a part #.

I haven't seen a right angle rca cable end at markertek yet...but that doesn't mean it's not there.

The Phoneix right angle RCAs look decent......

I had the same orange radio shack cable, and then I bought a whole bunch of switchcraft right-angle connecters from markertek, and I made myself 4 right-angle S/PDIF cables of varying lengths.  the work great.  go for it! :)

Do they still pass a digital signal w/o any problem? I'd like to find a right angled cable or adapter for the back of a Mini-Me as it usually sits up-right in my gig bag. Thanks for the info!

I've been using mine a few times a week (at least) since last october, with no problems at all.  I also sold a few extras to other folks on this board (http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=23;action=display;threadid=7739 (http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=23;action=display;threadid=7739)), and no one has told me of any problems.

if it's your first time soldering, buy a few extra connectors, but it's really isn't that hard.  Go for it!

I went to a local shop that sells & installs Hi end audio equipment in homes.

The guy made me 2 right angle coax cables for under 8 bucks each. Prob the same amount Markertek charges for shipping.
