Title: $1 Dead Cat DYI <10mins Wind Muff/Screen

I made this Dead Cat Wind Muff/Screen with materials for $1 from Dollar Tree Store -
it also fits the other recorder in the pic.

Took me less than 10mins to make it -
I actually pirated
or more accurately amputated the leg of a teddy bear -

this was in the toys section in a Dollar Tree -
they did come in other sizes and shades of brown -
I just picked the biggest for the most material, and darkest brown.

The pic above shows where I cut off one of the legs.

Then turned it inside out and sewed up the open end:

Once sewn up - cut a slot in the "foot"
turned it back to the long "fur" side  out -
the recorder(s) then slide into the opening

The Tascam DR-05 is a nice snug fit -
obviously the much smaller DR-03 and Teac VR-10 are loose -
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/UnknownVincent/digiRec/deadCat/deadCatDR03_140920.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/UnknownVincent/media/digiRec/deadCat/deadCatDR03_140920.jpg.html)
I used an elastic hair tie to make the fit more secure for the smaller recorders.

This one is too small for the Tascam DR-07MkII with the microphones spread out or even in the collapsed X-Y position.
But I have plenty of material left to make a bigger/wider dead cat.

But the point is this one was really easy since the leg was already a tube, so I only had to sew up one end....
and I can see the arms can be cut off to probably fit some microphones as-is without any further work
(I might do just that for the Tascam DR-07MkII for each of the mics in the spread out A-B position)

nice to see the $ store still has the 4/$1 Dead Teddy (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=101340.msg1409797#msg1409797) windscreen deal available and TSers are going the DIY route  :)

Ah! - thanks for being gentle, and for the link -
and love the name "Dead Teddy (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=101340.msg1409797#msg1409797)"

Didn't occur to me that this had been done before - to even think of doing a search   :-[ -
kudos to the original poster for the idea over 6 years ago.

Anyway since I've done the second part that came as an afterthought -
and I can see the arms can be cut off to probably fit some microphones as-is without any further work
(I might do just that for the Tascam DR-07MkII for each of the mics in the spread out A-B position)
(and already taken the pics)  -
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/UnknownVincent/digiRec/deadCat/deadCatDR07mkII140921.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/UnknownVincent/media/digiRec/deadCat/deadCatDR07mkII140921.jpg.html)
the Tascam DR-07MkII with the two cut off/"amputated" arms of the same $1 Dead Teddy.

These just easily slip over the mics as-is -
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/UnknownVincent/digiRec/deadCat/deadCatDR07mkIIAB140921.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/UnknownVincent/media/digiRec/deadCat/deadCatDR07mkIIAB140921.jpg.html)
But they fit loosely and will easily fall off - so the use of an elastic hair tie.

These also allow the Tascam DR-07MkII to fold the microphones fully to the X-Y position -
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/UnknownVincent/digiRec/deadCat/deadCatDR07mkIIXY140921.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/UnknownVincent/media/digiRec/deadCat/deadCatDR07mkIIXY140921.jpg.html)
the elastic hair tie is not needed, as the position "clamps" the Dead Teddy wind muffs and holds them securely in place.

Poor, poor triple amputee Dead Teddy
and the donated limbs -

Fabric, fabric glue and elastic bands can be had at the fabric store cheaply.  No need to amputate poor :( teddy.
