Title: Reasonable hq gearbag with shelves?
Post by: MakersMarc on May 19, 2015, 08:41:11 PM
My mountainsmith just ain't big enough for the om1 pair and Gak cables I just bought, and the backup 661 I'm gonna get. I'd love to get something that would let me put the brick on the bottom, decks in the middle and maybe mics and mounts on top with cables out the back. In total I need to tote:

661x2
148
4022
Standard t bar
Om1s in cases
Om1 shocks
Dpa rubber shocks
Xlr to xlr 3foot
Xlr to xlr 15 foot

It's not the weight but the volume. Thanks all.

The shitmapper deluxe and m1s are retired.  ;D

Not shelves exactly, but specifically made to accommodate location audio mixing/recording: Petrol PS603 Deca http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/686616-REG/Petrol_PS603_PS603_Deca_Eargonizer_Bag.html

The 603 in particular is at a big discount as Petrol has sold either some specific bag lines or the whole business to another company so the brand is being phased out.

I moved the awesome suede porta brace shoulder strap over to my 603 so I can't comment on the stock shoulder strap.

Thanks. Is 169 a good price?

Have you looked @ Bass Pro or Cabela's for a handgun bag?

I have one beef with Portabrace and Petrol bags and that is they don't seal all the way up. There is an open space on the top at each side where there is no provision for sealing the transparent top cover leaving a big space where rain and dirt can get in.

I use camera bags, Lowepro and Canon, for my taping gear since they can be zipped up all the way around. I have had to walk in the rain/snow after a gig many times and did not feel good about it when I had the Portabrace.

I liked my Sonic Case too since it had another flap that zipped over the clear window but you don't see too many of those nowadays...

I have a Petrol 602, probably should have bought the 603 actually but it fits my deck, V2, tube power supply, Aerco, FP24, two sets of mics in cigar caddies, cables & misc clamps as well as the back/hidden compartment holding two batteries. I don't mind the top not sealing up. I won't tape in the rain outdoors but walking in & out of shows in snow or rain hasn't been a problem. I paid full price for the 602 but for the price of a 603 currently I think it's a steal.

I do have a rain fly for the PB, but I agree that it's not the greatest design.
